Nan Meng received his Ph.D. degree in 2020 in Electric and Electronic Engineering from The University of Hong Kong. At HKU, he conducted research for image-based cancer diagnosis and released the first large-scale dataset for human somatic bright-field cells. He also conducted research for Light Field Reconstruction in the Imaging Systems Laboratory, supervised by Prof. Edmund Y. Lam. During his PhD, he consulted for an AI company in the areas of multi-view imaging systems and HKU Medicine School about medical image processing and analysis. After graduation, Dr. Meng joined the Digital Health Laboratory in HKU as a postdoc for over 2 years to conduct research in intelligent orthopaedics. At present, he is a research assistant pro-fessor.
His research interests include computational optics and imag-ing, from algorithms to applications and medical image analysis. His research direction includes light-field reconstruction, view synthesis, depth estimation and medical imaging.
Interdisciplinary researcher in AI for medical science, computational optics, and intelligent orthopaedics, focusing on multimodal spine data infrastructure and AI-assisted full-pathway spine care. He led the construction of a large-scale multimodal spine surgery database, a multiview surgery navigation system, and a lightfield-based spine alignment analysis system. He has published 38 papers, including 16 as first or corresponding author, in venues such as IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (IEEE TPAMI), IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (IEEE TIP), the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), eClinicalMedicine, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (IEEE JBHI), and the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE EMBC), with 850+ Google Scholar citations. His work has resulted in 2 medical devices/platforms, 1 international invention award, 5 patent applications, and approximately HKD 2 million in Hong Kong and national research funding. He also serves as a reviewer for leading AI and biomedical engineering journals, an IEEE EMBS Student Mentor, Guest Lecturer at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Associate Editor for IEEE JBHI, and Early Career Editorial Board Member and Guest Editor for Bioengineering

Medical Multi-View Stereo
Medical Light Field (MLF) aims to provide doctors with a new level of insight into the human body, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous medical conditions. For surgery, it provides surgeons with a more comprehensive view of the surgical site, allowing for more precise and efficient procedures.
